Overview

The Hotel at Holmes is located at the Holmes Student Center. As an integral part of the educational mission of Northern Illinois University, the Holmes Student Center is committed to providing the campus community with a gathering place that enhances student life, cultivates unity and promotes development through a variety of cultural, educational, social and recreational programs.

 
The Hotel Manager is responsible for the successful operation of the Hotel at Holmes. The Hotel Manager leads and directs operation by ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction for hotel guests. Supervises hotel staff including hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of assistant hotel manager, front desk and housekeeping teams. Responsible for revenue management of hotel including capital equipment purchases, group sales, marketing, and promotion. Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of hotel. Maintains a successful partnership with university hospitality program and with the DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
Hotel Management
  1. Responsible for the successful operation of the Hotel at Holmes.
  2. Leads and directs operation by ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction for hotel guests.
  3. Communicates with hotel guests and staff; to answer questions, problem solve and resolve any issues or concerns.
  4. Responsible for the safety and security of all guests and staff members.
  5. Checks room reservations, forecasting, front office systems and inventory supplies.
Supervision and Staff
  1. Supervises hotel staff including hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of front desk and housekeeping teams.
  2. Creates, revises and presents training materials for front desk and housekeeping staff, with input from the Assistant Manager and Housekeeping Supervisor.
Hotel Maintenance and Collaboration
  1. Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of hotel.
  2. Submits and follows up on work order requests made to campus trades for hotel rooms.
  3. Provides input on long-term hotel facility improvement projects.
  4. Maintains key control.
  5. Liaisons with Building Services to support Housekeeping Supervisor.
Hotel Revenue Management and Marketing
  1. Responsible for revenue management of hotel including capital equipment recommendations and purchases, group sales, marketing, and promotion.
  2. Reviews competitor hotels for rates and adjusts rates as needed.
  3. Plans capital equipment projects.
  4. Monitors and manages the hotel’s finances, including budgeting and expense management.
  5. Ensures financial objectives are met and implemented to improve revenue and control costs.
  6. Collaborates closely with the HSC Business Manager to ensure that internal controls comply with university audit standards and other regulatory requirements.
  7. Partners with on campus departments to create sales and packages for their needs in recruiting and marketing special events.
Partnerships and Communication
  1. Maintains a successful partnership with university hospitality program and with the DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
  2. Attends DeKalb/Sycamore Hotel Managers’ meetings.
Other Related Duties
  1. Participates in Division and department management team, committee meetings and sponsored events.
  2. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position.
  2. Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience.
NOTE: A master’s degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, hospitality, or a field related to the position.
  • Two years of professional level accounting, managerial and/or business experience, one year of which was at an administrative level.
  • Two years or more of hospitality, hotel, or resort management experience with significant supervisory responsibility.
Physical demands
Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 25 lbs.

Working Hours
M-F, 8:00am-4:30pm; occasional nights and weekends

Salary
$59,100.00 - $66,780.00/annually
